‘On 30th January at the official Opening of the 2nd ICIFE Annual General Meeting at Seri Pacific Hotel Kuala Lumpur; Br. Sulaiman Lujja flew to KL from MBale, about 222 km northeast of Kampala, Uganda’s capital and largest city representing Rector Dr. Ahmad Kaweesa Sengendo to receive personally the ICIFE Institutional Certificate for Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) from Hon.Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Utama Dr. Rais Yatim, Chairman of ICIFE International Advisory Board.
IUIU is a multi-campus university offering courses at undergraduate and postgraduates levels. The idea to start IUIU was conceived at the 2nd summit of OIC in 1974. The university was inaugurated in February 1988. The main objective of IUIU is to serve the higher education needs of the English speaking Muslim community in southern and eastern Africa continent.
IUIU currently has almost 8,000 students spread over Uganda at four campus located in the city of Mbale, Kampala campus, Kabojja campus and Arua campus. Several of IUIU top scholars were selected to pursue postgraduate programs. Evidently, Br. Twaha Kasule who has been involved with ICIFE project works on Talent Development just completed his  PhD program and is flying home to assume the leadership role in one of the four campus of IUIU. Whereas, Br. Miro Farooq of IUIU is now IUIU student pursuing his PhD at Education Management & Leadership Kulliyyah.
On 12th February, Rector Dr. Ahmad Kaweesa Sengendo email a positive message to Project Director Dr. Haji Zulkifly Baharom to confirm IUIU further collaboration in setting-up ICIFE Chapter in Uganda. As such, during the farewell tea reception in honor of Dr. Twaha Kasule at IIUM Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance (IIiBF), Founding President Prof Khaliq Ahmad presented the Authorization Certificate permitting IUIU to establish ICIFE Chapter in Uganda.
Even though IUIU is the 3rd Institutional Member being authorized to set-up ICIFE Chapter i.e. adding-up the list after UiTM (the 1st Chapter in Malaysia) and PAIA (the 1st Chapter in the Philippines) however, IUIU is infact the 1st ICIFE Chapter in Uganda and the African States. In this context, it is most fitting for Founding President Prof Khaliq Ahmad to nominate IUIU Rector Dr. Ahmad Kaweesa Sengendo as a Member of ICIFE International Advisory Board accordingly.
